About Celia ...
I live in Buxton, the town which has inspired The Buxton Spa Mysteries.
I came to Buxton when I retired after 30 years of practising as a lawyer. I now have time for the two things I most love – writing and history. Buxton has proved to be the perfect place for this. Researching the history of Buxton inspired this series of murder mysteries written in the classic style (no sex and no violence). They are set in Buxton and capture the life of the town in 1920s. After a working life spent drafting affidavits and listening to witnesses give evidence in Court, story-telling comes easily. Preparing a case for hearing involves research and the accurate recording of facts as well as putting those facts into the correct sequence so that the evidence will make sense for the judge or the jury. These are the same skills that the mystery writer uses, so working on a novel is pretty much the same as working as a lawyer, but certainly much more fun. |
Widow’s Peak, the first in the series, is set in 1920. The books are set against a background of events in the town of Buxton Spa in the 1920s. The books feature Elenor Harriman, who works in her father's legal firm, Harriman & Talbot, of Hall Bank. They follow and build on the lives of the main characters and also introduce new characters as Eleanor solves the latest murder.
I hope that after reading the books in this series you will want to explore Buxton and search for the landmarks which feature in the novels and inspire you to discover the history behind the older parts of the town. |
